Habitat Family Partnership selection is based on a set of criteria, including but not limited to:

• Current living conditions; must demonstrate a housing need, beyond the desire of owning a home;
• Willingness to partner with Habitat to provide 250 sweat equity hours, per adult, volunteering on a home or other volunteer opportunities with South Shore Habitat (2025 note: there is an exception to this rule for 810 Jerusalem in Cohasset).
• Willingness to attend financial workshops before, during and after construction of the home;
• Ability to obtain and repay a 30 year affordable mortgage through a conventional lender.
• Employment/income verification, calculation of debt-to-income ratio, credit checks, and review of documentation, including bank statements, is required.
• Must be a first time homebuyer (some exceptions may apply).
• Meet the minimum and maximum annual income: total household cannot exceed 80% of the area's median income (see charts below); the current minimum household annual income is $65,000.

Income limits are subject to change; in the event of a discrepancy, information in the project application will prevail. All opportunities will be posted for a minimum of 60 days (2025 note: for 810 Jerusalem Road, the postings will be available for 30 days).
