Join us for Women Build throughout the entire month of March. Women Build is an annual program that celebrates and empowers women to learn new skills in a supportive environment during Women's History Month, while helping us address the affordable housing crisis in Southeastern Massachusetts

What is Women Build?

Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program provides opportunities for women and all those looking to celebrate women to participate in homebuilding activities to help build stronger, safer communities. This program equips women to serve in their communities, enabling them to address local affordable homeownership challenges. Women Build provides a comfortable, inclusive environment for all to take proactive steps in serving their communities, while learning invaluable construction skills. Our volunteers gain knowledge and skills they can use to repair and maintain their own homes. Join the over 144,000 people and 17,000 corporate volunteers who have participated in Women Build events across the U.S since the program began in 1998. To participate, companies, organizations, and groups of all kinds can sponsor a team to join us for a private build day, anytime in the month of March to celebrate and empower women while supporting the affordable housing movement right in your local community. Please note, while this program is designed to engage and empower women, it is a fully gender-inclusive volunteer experience open to all.

Sponsor or form a fundraising team to secure a Women Build Day at one of our current sites in Easton or Abington for a full day of construction, empowerment, and fun led by our Construction Project Manager, Sheri Green. No construction experience required, all volunteers welcome.

Sponsorship cost:

$2,500 - corporations, businesses, and generous supporters

$500 - discounted rate offered to non profits, schools, and faith groups.

A private Build Day at one of our construction sites for up to 10 volunteers
Greeting and team orientation from SSHH

Annual Meeting 2025

On November 19, 2025, we were honored to have so many members of our community join us for our Annual Meeting. Looking around the room we were joined by Board Members, Core Construction Volunteers, long time supporters and brand new faces wanting to learn more about South Shore Habitat. We were proud to reflect on our achievements of this year and share what is next for us in FY26. It was a great night of connection and community.

Jerusalem Road Home Dedication

Home Dedication of 808 & 810 Jerusalem Road, Cohasset Habitat Homes

On September 10th, 2025, all those who wished to welcome Erin L, and Mike and Debra to the neighborhood joined us at a Home Dedication Ceremony. Community members were able to tour the completed homes, and celebrate the families, volunteers, donors, and sponsors who made these homes possible. Remarks and refreshments followed at The Corner Stop Eatery.

We thank all those showed up and brought housewarming gifts, it was truly a heartwarming showing of community. We give our utmost appreciation to everyone who supported this project from the beginning.

MORE ON WOMEN IN HOUSING

Economic barriers in inequity
Women face barriers in access to consumer loans and other credit products, creating an impact that lasts over the woman’s lifetime. According to the National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality, “In the United States, experts found that the gains in women’s earnings over the past 40 years drove 91% of the income gains experienced by middle-class families. Estimates show that closing gender gaps in the workforce would add between $12 trillion and $28 trillion in global GDP over a decade and that addressing the gendered economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic alone would generate up to $13 trillion in global GDP by 2030.”

Women suffered higher unemployment rates due to COVID-19-related childcare demands than men. About one-quarter of adults age 25-44 specified that their lack of employment was due to COVID-19-related child care issues. Of those not working, women were almost three times as likely as men to not be working because of childcare demands.

Women in construction
According to Buildertrend, 2020 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics says women made up nearly half of the labor in the construction industry. But women make up just 10.9% of construction work site roles, making it an area for growth.

Women and neighborhood leadership
Our work at Habitat for Humanity is about building homes, communities, and hope. We believe that it is important not only to have a stable house, but also to live in a stable community and have relationships with neighbors that bring a sense of connectedness and safety to one’s life. Many neighborhoods across the country have experienced historical disinvestment or are currently facing challenges that affect the well-being of their residents.

If every neighborhood is going to be a place where residents have an opportunity to thrive, we must begin to see them as places full of gifts, strengths and assets that can be leveraged for positive change. The core of these gifts, strengths and assets are the residents themselves. Our work at Habitat involves engaging them to understand what their dreams and concerns are for the neighborhood
.
We have found over and over in this work that many of the resident leaders who form the backbone of strong community associations and care deeply for the community are women. All residents are invaluable at the neighborhood table, but if you want to unlock a movement of care in a community, look to many of the women who take initiative to create a healthy neighborhood for their children, families, and neighbors. We celebrate the contributions of these women. We see them and we are inspired by them!

Gingerbread Build

Deck the Halls with Gumdrops!

About Host your own Gingerbread Build and raise funds to help South Shore Habitat for Humanity build homes for local families in need.

We supply everything you need for a successful event - you simply recruit up to 10 teams and have some holiday fun!

South Shore Habitat for Humanity:

Provides Gingerbread House Kits* Please note the kits are basic. Teams are encouraged to come up with a theme in advance and bring the necessary décor!
Supplies team recruitment flyer template
Outlines the set-up and run-of-events instructions
Supplies tablecloths and table signage
Provides Certificates of Participation and Three Prize Ribbons
Provides participants with an overview of our mission, history and current projects
Posts your support in our newsletter and social media

Gingerbread Build Hosts:

Select a date, time, and place to host the event - ideally between 11/30 and 12/24
Recruit 10 teams and charge a participation fee ($100 per team of four) Think friends and family or a work team. Funds are to be collected and sent to SSHH as one payment please.
Create categories for prizes if you wish - best use of the color turquoise, tallest, most historic, etc.
Recruit event volunteers/judges
Supply a table for each team
Provide snacks and beverages
Take pictures of teams and their houses and send to Michael Ryan at mryan@sshabitat.org .
