School Partnerships
Raising awareness in the next generation
Although youth under the age of 16 are legally prohibited from participating in the construction of our homes, there are MANY creative opportunities for youth to become involved in Habitat's mission. Read through the list below that has immediate ways youth can get involved. If any opportunity interests you or your group, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator via email, or at 781-843-9080, ext. 18.
Youth Opportunities
- Integrate housing issues in your school curriculum. There are many opportunities to relate current issues to classroom learning. For great examples of projects that have incorporated community needs with educational standards see Whitman-Hanson's Community Service Learning work.
- Start a Campus Chapter Engage your fellow classmates to become more aware, raise funds and support the work of South Shore Habitat while practicing civic leadership. Visit the Youth Programs website or call us to see how to be involved immediately. For an example of ways your school can incorporate Habitat's mission visit the Whitman-Hanson High School program.
- Join a Local Partnership Committee Several groups of volunteers gather to support a current build project and they all appreciate help and perspectives from youth. Check out what's going on in your community and reach out to the Chairperson to offer specific help.
- Design outreach materials Want to express your artisitc talents? Create fun and creative Thank You cards for volunteers and donors! Design a South Shore Habitat bumper sticker design to sell at fundraisers and other events.
